1974 Honda Franks 125
This bike was the creation of master craftsman Kelvin Franks. Franks and his Partner
Stu peters started the CMC motocross organization in the early 1970s that many of us
cut our teeth on. This bike was built by kelvin as a MONOSHOCK bike and was raced by
Tommy Croft. When Chris Morton discovered this bike he was in a quandry as to what he
had found as the nickling had been painted green etc. After removing the paint he
found nickle under it. After long research he was led to Kelvin who told the story
to chris of the bike he built as first first monshock world beater. Chris in typical
Mortan style has gone over the top to restore and replicate this piece of history.
He converted it to a dual shock as Chris wanted to race it at least once in an AHRMA
event so it needed to be dual shock. This is the second rare bike that Chris has sent
to us and it will look so VERY VERY cool between the stock Honda, the DG Honda,
and the 76 Mugen Honda.
This Franks bike was the second effort by Kelvin and was raced primarily by Danny LaPorte.
The swing arm was changed and the mono shock was redesigned into a traditional dual
shock but greatly improved to give 11 inches of rear travel. It was a better design
than Kelvin's first effort. It cornered fantastic and was steady in the rough.
The Franks jersey was provided by Tommy Croft to Chris. Chris made an exact copy, and
returned the original to Tommy and kept a replica with this bike.
